mapONE is a dedicated site focusing on Spatial Data Visualization (SDV) or what everyone else likes to call GIS (geographic information systems).
mapONE is broken up into these primary areas:
Data – Which is the reason we need computers and boy, do WE have data; WE made it in the ’70s; WE used it in the ’80s; WE distribute it in the ’90s. So when will we understand it all? Included at this page are existing data repositories that are on the NET as well as some turnkey data sets to help you control the world quickly.
Visualization - is the entire reason GIS works. The representation of information on maps allows people to SEE relationships in data that traditional databases cannot reveal. While this technology is nothing new to those of us in the industry, the rest of the world is awakening to the potential of this medium for information. At this page we hope to introduce you to a number of concepts related to NEW ways of visualizing your data.
Mapping - is a commonly used term with GIS. Here, MAPPING refers to associating information with something as well as the traditional GIS terminology. In these pages we want to show you different ways of relating YOUR information. We also include a number of pointers to locations and tools that make mapping (the GIS kind) a lot easier.
Knowledge – is… good! OK, so it is power too! We gain knowledge by exposure to information through communication and concepts. Most of all we learn by doing, trying, and doing and trying again. On this page we will show you some links that will start you on your quest for knowledge. Just remember to forget everything you already know!
Stuff – There always is and always be other stuff – what this stuff is and what this stuff means all depends on what stuff we’re talking about. Here we point to all kinds of stuff, need we say anymore? (be sure to look for our very special different stuff section)

Here at mapONE we take a more light hearted approach to our web site because above all the net should be enlightening and entertaining. As for the corporate “Ain’t we a great everything”… well, let’s just say we want to remove that tone right away. Sure, life can be serious but this seriously can’t be life. I do this only to allow you to view NEW content as it is added (which is on going). If you are just looking for links and free files, go somewhere else. In other words, this is a “teach a person to fish…” type of site.
For those of you who have visited this site in the past, we hope that our (final?) concept to the format is a refreshing one. For those that are just turning to our site, always remember that this is an EVOLVING effort and primarily a part-time one at that. To all, we sincerely hope this site provides enough information and humor to justify the reason we all believe the Internet is truly an exciting medium of communication.
